us-all-along-cover

Maryanne Gates has always been “the shy girl,” but snotty comments from her roommate about her virginity has her desperate to change that image. She’s never felt more ready to gain confidence and lose her V-card. And she wants to do it with Dan, the sexy but cocky guy of her dreams. There’s one problem: even though Dan is single, it’s obvious he has a thing for Robyn, the nicest girl in Bright Park.

But Lake DuBois, Maryanne’s most outgoing and amusing coworker, could be the solution to that problem. Lake also likes Robyn, and if Maryanne helps Lake win Robyn over, Dan might move on and finally notice Maryanne.

It sounds like the perfect plan, but after spending so much time with Lake, Maryanne’s falling hard for him. Whether she risks their friendship by confessing her feelings or sticks to the original goal of a one-night stand, her future looks full of rejection with both Lake and Dan chasing Robyn. It would take an exceptional amount of courage for “the shy girl” to take action—if she even has a chance at all.

Turn To Love — Available Now!

The fourth book in the Bright Park Romance series, Turn To Love, is available now! You can find it on Amazon and Kobo, and it will soon be available on B&N and iBooks.

turn-to-love-cover

Caelyn Jones hadn’t planned to have a guy as a roommate—especially one as cynical and disorganized as Drexel Blackford—but she’s not in a position to be picky. His apartment is by far the most convenient and affordable for her. And besides, Drexel’s super hot, and he’s not mean to her or anything. He just doesn’t show any desire to be her friend.

Still, Caelyn is determined to be an optimist, even while going through the heartache with her estranged parents and the silent treatment she receives from her best friend. It doesn’t matter if Drexel’s the opposite of her in every way. She’ll find a way to become his friend, and ideally, something more.

But her positive thinking can only last for so long when there’s no one around to build her up. Drexel might be part of the reason she finally breaks down… but he also could be the only one to help put her back together.

Let’s Talk About: Godspeed

18114821

When it comes to classy romance with a timeless feel, Godspeed by February Grace is one of my ultimate favorites. I usually stick to shorter, steamier, contemporary stories, but this steampunk romance has some of my favorite characters of any book, not to mention its beautiful descriptions and setting.

The heroine, Abigail, is one you root for from the beginning. To put it bluntly, she’s dying, and the only person who has a chance of saving her is the charming but very serious Dr. Quinn Godspeed. The interactions between Abigail and Quinn were without a doubt the best part of the book, but the story’s mystery is also what kept me eagerly flipping pages. Definitely recommended for anyone who loves a newer (2012) romance that reads like a classic.

Note: Although I own a copy of the book, the publisher has since gone out of business, and Ms. Grace has moved her novels to Wattpad. You can read Godspeed for free here.

Know By Heart – Available Now!

The third book in the Bright Park Romance series, Know By Heart, is available on Amazon!

Know By Heart

Laurel Moore’s ideal future consists of two things: a steady career and a stable relationship. Now that she’s got the job part down, she’s ready to focus on the other goal, and she’s found a guy who seems almost perfect: her not-yet-official boyfriend, Grant. The only problem? He’s focused on the marriage and kids dream, and she’s not feeling it.

Besides, Laurel’s kidding herself if she thinks she’s over her best friend and long-time crush, Brandon, the ladies’ man of Bright Park. Even worse, her friends accuse her of still having feelings for Seth, a sexy wise-guy that she’d made out with a couple of years back. And they might not be wrong.

It’s time for Laurel to sort all of this out before things get too serious with Grant. Does she still want to be with this great guy, even though they want different things in life? Should she pursue Brandon now that he’s newly single, even when she has a feeling he doesn’t want her like that? And if she really is in love with Brandon, then why can’t she stop thinking about Seth?

Let’s Talk About: All In My Head

30826236

All In My Head by Kristen James was a lucky find. I discovered it on Amazon by chance, and the summary grabbed my attention right away. It’s a contemporary romance with a twist.

The main character, Avery, wakes up after an accident and discovers that she can hear a male voice in her head. The voice belongs to someone named Marcus. They have their differences at first, but as they grow to care about each other, it becomes more and more complicated. How do you have a relationship with someone who’s in your head, if he’s even real?

Ms. James pulled off this unique plot well, and she got me to care about her characters’ lives and well being. She combines the things I love most about one of my favorite genres (contemporary romance) with unconventional additions that make the story that more exciting.

Have you read any books by Kristen James? Or any other clever books that set themselves apart from their genre?

First Love: Howl’s Moving Castle

I’d loved romantic stories for years, but Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones was one that made an impression on me as a teen. This particular story made me want to create a romance novel of my own — which is funny, because it’s not a traditional “romance novel.” Technically, it’s a children’s novel.

2294528

Besides the literal magic in the story, as main character Sophie is transformed into an old woman by the powers of an evil witch, there was something magical about the interaction between the two main characters. Sophie and Howl had a connection that was based on caring about each other as people. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun to read about characters lusting over each other in other romantic fiction, but this story stayed with me because of how genuine their love was. I just loved every time Sophie and Howl had a scene together.

Although I don’t write anything fantasy-related, Howl’s Moving Castle is one of many inspirations of mine, and one I’ll still return back to again and again.

Yet So Far — Available Now!

The second book in the Bright Park Romance series, Yet So Far, is now available on Amazon!

Yet So Far

Alexa Cartwright isn’t looking to jump into a new relationship after breaking up with her ex-boyfriend, Jonathan, but she’ll be the first to admit she’s lonely. Practically everyone she’s close to is moving far away from Bright Park, the town she grew up in, and being newly single only makes it tougher.

So, when one of her friends offers to set her up with a guy friend to chat with, Alexa is on board right away, as long as they keep it platonic. Nathanael “Nat” Van Buren lives across the country, but the way he and Alexa connect, it feels like he’s right there with her. He’s quickly becoming her best friend… and maybe more?

Alexa can’t ignore how her heart beats wildly when she thinks about Nat, but she’s also determined to stick to her original plan: staying single until she’s absolutely sure that a man would be right for her. When the opportunity arises for Alexa to meet Nat in person, though, she’s curious to find out if her feelings change—just in time for a much improved Jonathan to show up at her door, offering her what she’s wanted from the start.
